Climate Week New York City 2024 brought together global leaders, innovators, and changemakers to tackle the most pressing issues related to climate action. Throughout the week, ALLCOT IO’s team exchanged on how digital innovation and data are at the heart of our sustainability initiatives.
We took this occasion to preview to a happy few our « Ground to Ledger» initiative, a framework that leverages how extensive data collected from environmental projects can become actionable insights that complement and substantiate projects’ claims.
Turning Data Into Action: The Power of Digital Tools for Sustainability
During the Sustainability Summit, hosted by Blockchain x Climate (BxC), Global Blockchain Business Council (GBBC), and Microsoft, our COO, Francisca Garay Massardo, discussed how ALLCOT IO is leveraging dMRV (Digital Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification) technology in the process of carbon projects lifecycle.
By digitizing data at its source and securing it on a blockchain ledger, dMRV provides a verifiable and traceable record of the information structuring carbon credits. The wealth of data collected from dMRV systems can be channeled to automated systems feeding digitized methodologies offering faster processing and greater accuracy in projects’ lifecycle.
dMRV aligns perfectly with our «Ground to Ledger» approach, where data is essential in validating the environmental claims that support carbon projects. By securing verified third-party authentication of these claims, we enhance transparency and trust. The integration of blockchain ensures that every step of the carbon project lifecycle is backed by a traceable, immutable record, reinforcing the credibility of the carbon credits issued and the environmental impact they represent.
Data Cooperatives – The Future of Collective Data systems
Another standout moment of the week was when our Co-Founder and CEO, Raphaël De Ry, took part in the Leaders of Regeneration session at the Harvard’s Club as part of the UN Summit of the Future Initiative. His panel delved into the intersection of investment, innovation, and indigenous knowledge—three critical elements that, when combined, have a strong potential to regenerate our planet.
Raphaël showcased ALLCOT IO’s Ground to Ledger approach, aligned with the spirit of data cooperatives and digital commons. These concepts will strengthen sustainability efforts by empowering local communities and ensuring that environmental data remains accessible, trustworthy and beneficial to all. Raphaël explained how data should be available in a circular loop, where various stakeholders can collect it, access it, and use it independently instead of in a linear way where it becomes inaccessible after it is consumed was his key message. Furthermore, intertwining data with indigenous knowledge systems can amplify the effectiveness of climate initiatives and promote more inclusive, community-driven solutions.
This session further emphasized the role digital technologies and blockchain play in supporting climate action and the successful implementation and monitoring of sustainable development goals.
From Ground to Ledger
At ALLCOT IO, we are committed to addressing these challenges. Our » Ground to Ledger» approach is a transformative approach that empowers all stakeholders —from local communities to project developers, governments, investors, and all involved in effective climate action to take actionable steps toward a net-zero future.
As we continue to refine and expand our initiatives, we look forward to sharing and exchanging with everyone eager to participate in our effort to bring data to the center of environmental projects. Some say that data is the new oil, but as you might guess we are not big fans of oil, so we prefer to say that data is the new mycelium and it’s all decentralized, regenerative, and interconnected like our digital systems.
Stay tuned for more updates as we share insights from Climate Week and beyond, as well as real-world results from our ongoing projects.
