At ALLCOT IO, we are constantly seeking innovative ways to amplify our impact in the sustainability space. One of the most exciting developments on this front is our new partnership with SimplexDNA. This collaboration marks a significant step forward in our mission to harness the power of data for environmental good.
About SimplexDNA
SimplexDNA is a pioneering company specializing in environmental DNA (eDNA) monitoring, a cutting-edge method that uses DNA from environmental samples—such as water, soil, or air—to track and analyze biodiversity. Their innovative approach involves creating digital tokens called Franklins, which are linked to the biodiversity data collected through eDNA sampling. This system, known as the Proof of Life (PoL) protocol, aims to establish a global biodiversity monitoring network that is both scalable and verifiable.
Founded with the mission to address the biodiversity crisis, Simplex DNA recognized the need for more accurate, affordable, and scalable biodiversity monitoring methods. Traditional approaches, while valuable, often fall short in terms of scale and precision. SimplexDNA’s aim is to democratize access to biodiversity data, making it openly accessible for everyone and licensed use for different sectors – a model not so different from a patent. This approach not only generates vital data for understanding and preserving biodiversity but also creates economic incentives for conservation efforts.
About the partnership
Our partnership with SimplexDNA was born out of a shared vision: to harness the wealth of data for sustainable development. At ALLCOT IO, we have always understood the critical role that accurate data plays in carbon management and broader sustainability initiatives. When we learned about SimplexDNA’s innovative approach to biodiversity monitoring, we saw an opportunity to integrate their expertise with our own.
“Accounting for nature in all its forms is needed to scale impact, and with the shared vision of our companies, we aim to showcase how restoring biodiversity truly is a nature-based solution to carbon drawdown”
The ABC Mangrove Senegal Project
The ABC Mangrove Senegal project is a grouped initiative focused on the reforestation and conservation of mangrove ecosystems in Senegal, targeting the restoration of at least 7,000 hectares of mangroves. The project spans the Saloum Delta and the Casamance estuary, covering regions in Fatick and Casamance and five departments (Fatick, Foundiougne, Ziguinchor, Bignona, and Oussouye).
This ambitious project aims to:
- Strengthen the vegetation cover in mangrove ecosystems.
- Improve the production and income of vulnerable groups.
- Enhance the capacity of these groups to use land resources sustainably.
Our partnership with SimplexDNA is vital to achieving the ambitious goals of this project. SimplexDNA’s eDNA monitoring technology allows us to conduct detailed analyses of biodiversity in the project area. Specifically, we are focusing on:
- Biodiversity in the absence of the project: Understanding the current state of biodiversity without intervention.
- Positive impacts on biodiversity in the project scenario: Assessing how the project contributes to biodiversity restoration.
- Negative impacts of the project outside the project sites: Measuring any adverse effects the project might have on surrounding areas.
- Monitoring impacts on biodiversity: Developing a robust approach to tracking changes in biodiversity over time.
SimplexDNA will be providing samples using their novel high-volume filtration kit, with analysis focused on three key species groups: invertebrates, vertebrates, and a special focus on fish. This comprehensive analysis will generate rich information about the state of the ecosystem and what positive impacts are achieved and negative impacts are mitigated.
Our Impact
In the carbon markets, where accuracy and transparency are paramount, the data provided by SimplexDNA will allow us to refine our methodologies and offer our clients more detailed and reliable information. This, in turn, will empower them to make informed decisions that align with their sustainability goals.
This collaboration marks SimplexDNA’s first foray into the voluntary carbon market, bringing their innovative eDNA monitoring technology into the industry. This integration of advanced biodiversity data collection with carbon market projects sets a precedent for future initiatives, enhancing the accuracy and transparency of sustainability efforts.
One of the key areas where we anticipate significant benefits is in biodiversity monitoring. SimplexDNA’s technology enables us to track changes in ecosystems with a level of detail that was previously unimaginable. This will not only help us understand the impact of various projects on biodiversity but also allow us to design more effective strategies for preserving and enhancing it.
Our collaboration with SimplexDNA is about more than just technological advancement; it’s about creating a better future for the planet. Together, we are committed to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in sustainability, using data as the foundation for our efforts. SimplexDNA’s arrival at ALLCOT IO represents a new chapter in our journey towards sustainability. By joining forces, we are demonstrating the true wealth of data and its potential to drive positive change. As we move forward, we are excited to see the impact that this partnership will have on our work and on the world.
Stay tuned as we continue to explore the possibilities of this collaboration and share more about the innovative solutions we’re developing together.
